Well,
My family surived the Armenian Genocide.
Before they escaped to the US in the early 1900’s, their houses were bombed, and many of them were marched through the desert.
The majority of them didn’t survive before they were able to escape.
So yes, I’m proud of my heritage. I’m proud of where I came from. And I’m proud as hell that my family found a way to escape, and that this country welcomed them, and allowed them the opportunity to succeed.
I’m sorry, I don’t appreciate being treated like I don’t deserve to be “proud” of who I am because my skin is white. Just because I have a pale complexion, doesn’t mean you know anything about my family history or where we come from.
While I don’t equate “being proud” to “not being ashamed”, I, as a pretty brown person, support this post.
